Summer Reading Week 3 “Adventure Crafts” Coming Up Wednesday! (7/24/24)

Join us for Summer Reading Week 3 at Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library! This Wednesday (7/24) we will be embarking on an Adventure Crafts program that’s set to feature several activities/project while giving everyone the chance to really get creative at the library!

Just like last week, registration/check-in will start at 9:30 AM and then the program will begin promptly at 10 AM. If you completed the reading log, please be sure to show it to us when checking in so that you can get a sticker for your log and the chance to enter our grand prize raffle from which several lucky winners will be drawn at the end of our time together later this summer.

Following the Adventure Crafts program and of course a snack, all those that completed their reading for the week will be able to select a free book for their home library or something from the prize box. We hope to see you all Wednesday morning for our next adventure together at Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library!

The Future of Our Youth at Illumination Station (7/23/24)

Come out to celebrate or maybe even inspire the next generation with a youth programming event in Shamokin! Happening tomorrow evening (7/23) at Illumination Station from 6-8 PM, this event will showcase all the exciting opportunities available for young people across our local area including scholarship offerings along with the launch of the Community Giving Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy program held at Shamokin Area High School.

Live music entertainment will be provided by Down N’ Out with light refreshments being supplied by Chicuterie.

With an aim to empower, assist, and inspire local youth, tomorrow evening’s event was designed through partnerships between multiple dedicated organizations including Artisan Alley Fine Art Gallery, For the Cause Teen Centers, Community Giving Foundation, and the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way. For more information, please contact Alyssa Meyers-Sanonu, Foundation Director of Philanthropy, at 570-854-3504 or ameyers-sanonu@csgiving.org!

Preschool Storytime & Movement

This morning at Preschool Storytime & Movement we read “Blue Ethel” which was about how older cats can still learn new and novel tricks that in the long run will make life all the more colorful and vibrant from one canvas to the next.

Following song time, everyone got to color (in mostly blue hues of course!) a delightful little feline friend just like the one in the story. Later on, we added highlights and bursts of color from all across the spectrum wherever they thought it was needed!

Ancestry Library Edition Always Available

Looking to research your family history? Shamokin-Coal Township Public library is just the place to go! Our library offers free public access to the Ancestry Library Edition online database. This means that thousands of records pertaining to births, deaths, marriages, census data, and so much more can be easily retrieved with just a few simple steps!

Bloomsburg Children’s Museum Family Day Pass

Free passes for the whole family to visit Bloomsburg Children’s Museum are available at the library all through summer and beyond!

Passes are valid for general admission only and do not cover special events/programs, classes, or workshops hosted at the museum. These passes can be checked out for 1 week and then are to be promptly returned to the library just like you’d check out and return a book.

Please be sure to return the passes in a timely manner so that as many families as possible can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to play, learn, and discover together!

Cookbook Book Club Coming Up

Cookbook Book Club will be meeting once again at the library this coming Monday (7/22) at 6 PM for a potluck! Everyone is encouraged to bring a prepared dish from their own recipe collection or one selected from our many local cookbooks. For additional info or to sign up, stop by the library or give us a call!

Summer Reading Adventures Continue at the Library!

Summer Reading Week 2 was a blast! This week we hosted Reptiland and their special presentation “Reptiles: The Beautiful & the Deadly” which featured an alligator, an iguana, multiple snakes, and more!

Between now and next Wednesday morning’s Adventure Crafts program, be sure to complete your reading log by reading 20 minutes a day for at least 5 days in order to receive either a free book or an item from the prize box next week. If you’re not quite reading on your own yet, reading with a parent/guardian or being read to also counts!

Each week you complete the log and bring it back to us, you’ll have the chance to enter your name to win an Amazon Fire tablet on the last day! Also continue working on your Summer Reading Bingo cards and be sure to show us your progress week to week.

Each time you get bingo, you’ll get to enter your name into a separate drawing for a grand mystery prize that we’ll also be giving away during our last session together in August. We hope to see everyone next week (7/24) for Adventure Crafts!
