The Shamokin Coal Township Public Library is collecting non-perishable items for the SASD BackPack Program. The program provides “at risk” children with food over the weekends or long holidays when school meals are not available. The library is collecting the food items until September 30th. Please look at the food list to see the items that are being collected for the program. Please consider making a donation.

4H Teen STEM Club

The 4H Teen Stem Club will meet on a monthly basis from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Library. Parents are welcome to stay and observe if they wish, but we often find that youth, especially teens, are more likely to participate and ask questions if parents aren’t there. BUT, again, please do not hesitate to stay around and watch what’s going on. We only ask that you stay quiet unless a specific question is asked of you. 4-H takes pride in the fact that our programs encourage youth to take on responsibility and leadership as they learn by doing through hands-on, interactive project work.
The dates currently planned will, for the most part, be the LAST MONDAY OF EACH MONTH – with the exception of May/June. These dates are:
Monday, February 25
Monday, March 25
Monday, April 29
Monday, June 3 (this is because of Memorial Day)
Monday, July 29
Monday, August 26
Monday, September 30 – this will be the wrap-up meeting where awards will be presented to all members and we will begin planning for continuation of the club for 2020.

The February meeting is the last time we will be able to take enrollees for the program. If you know of anyone interested, please ask the parent/guardian to come to the library between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25 to enroll OR they can contact Sam Nicola through email at sdn110@psu.eduand. He can then send information and directions on how to enroll prior to the February meeting.

Please note that there are 6 project meetings; the seventh one is more of a “fun” event where we’ll recognize the members. Please note that in order to successfully complete a 4-H project, all members make every effort to attend all the meetings but can be excused for up to 2 if necessary (so they would need to make 4 out of the 6 project meetings that will take place from February through August.) If a meeting is missed, a member may need to work on their own to catch-up for the next meeting.

He will bring some project books with him to the February meeting and the youth will then select the one that they like the most…it will be a “majority rules” decision!
