Do you know what makes tomorrow a special day? March 2 highlights the birthday of Dr. Seuss and is when we celebrate National Read Across America Day every year! And the best part is, tomorrow is only the first day of Read Across America Week which runs through March 6.
The National Education Association first launched Read Across America in 1998 as a year-round program to celebrate reading. Given Dr. Seuss’ impact on the reading world and his work’s lasting influence, his birthday (March 2) was declared Read Across America Day. This also commences Read Across America Week and Read Across America Month!
The library will be participating in this year’s annual “Raise the Region” online giving campaign! This gives members of our community the opportunity to support local nonprofits by helping them raise as much money as possible during a small window of time. Donations from this strategic and unified effort will support our local nonprofits in addressing the diverse needs of our region.
Raise the Region 2024 will officially begin on Wednesday, March 13 at 6:00 PM and end at 11:59 PM on March 14. For a donation to be counted, it must be made through http://www.raisetheregion.org during the 30 hour giving period. There is a $25 minimum amount but no maximum amount for donations. Your contribution greatly helps local organizations like the library in creating a more vibrant and engaging community space that welcomes all!

Don’t forget Mahjong for Beginners is every Wednesday from 1-3 PM and is a great opportunity for adults to learn something new while also meeting new people at the library!

Thank you to Shamokin Head Start for welcoming Mrs. Sickora & Mr. Ben into your classrooms and allowing us to continue sharing our Preschool Storytime & Movement program with you. Since his birthday is coming up soon, we read “The Foot Book” by Dr. Seuss and then got to make some snazzy feet of our own!
This evening at the library’s new family STEM night we had lots of opportunities to build and create together! Catch us again or for the very first time next month on Tuesday, March 26 anytime from 5-7 PM.
Keep up to date with everything happening at your local library this March and all throughout 2024! Printed calendars are readily available each month at the front desk along with handouts that include additional information about upcoming programs and events.
This morning at Preschool Storytime & Movement we read the Dr. Seuss classic “The Foot Book” followed by our regular songs. After that, we got started with this week’s craft where everyone got to decorate and bedazzle two feet of their own any which way they liked!
