An extra special shoutout goes to library employee Terri Sheptock for putting together this lovely bulletin board display for us and ensuring that all of our stockings were hung by the chimney with care!

Just this past week the Shamokin Rotary Club hosted their Santa Sleigh event just a few doors down from the library. With us being only a few steps away, we teamed up and hosted a holiday children’s craft and everyone also had the chance to write a letter to be read live on WISL’s “Letters to Santa” radio program. Stationary for Santa letters remains available at the library for all those interested!

Earlier this week at Preschool Storytime & Movement we read “Pete the Cat Saves Christmas” before singing some songs, doing a bit of coloring, and of course having our snack! Preschool Storytime & Movement will still be held every Monday morning through December with the exception of Christmas.

We’re all ready for the holiday season here at the library! Be sure to stop by at some point over the coming weeks to enjoy the festive and warm atmosphere that can be found both inside and outside of our building.
A very special thank you goes to our dedicated staff members for decorating the library so beautifully each year and helping the yuletide season to truly come to life for our patrons!

To go along with our Harry Potter themed tree at the library, there is also a scavenger hunt with a small prize in store for those that successfully complete it!
Much like in the book series, the task is to locate a list of magical items that can all be found hiding somewhere on the tree. Once you’ve found all the items, you’ll be awarded a Golden Snitch and have your name entered to win a complete set of Harry Potter books. Best of luck!

Tomorrow evening the Shamokin Rotary Club will be hosting their Santa Sleigh event from 6-8 PM on East Independence Street just a few doors down from the library. Children will have the chance to meet Santa and then can head on down to the library for a small craft.
Everyone is also welcomed to write a letter to send into WISL’s “Letters to Santa” program tomorrow evening while at the library and all throughout the coming weeks!

Don’t forget that this month’s only Book Bingo is this evening at 6 PM. This one will be extra special with lots of festive mystery prizes nestled amongst the books and movies!

Last week we held our very first “Exploration Station” STEM event at the library! This new recurring program geared toward school aged children is a chance to introduce critical thinking and problem solving skills in a relaxed environment where friends can discover and learn alongside one another.
Our next family STEM event will be held Tuesday, December 26 anytime from 3-5 PM upstairs at the library!

Join us at the library this coming Saturday (12/9) for a special visit and book signing with author/illustrator Dave Tamkus starting at 10 AM! Mr. Tamkus will be signing copies of his recent publication “The Mystery of the Shamokin Head” which takes us down the path of some very interesting local history accompanied by vivid illustrations all throughout.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase for $20 the morning of the signing for all those interested!

Don’t forget that it’s “All About Appetizers” week at Cookbook Book Club tomorrow evening (12/4) at 6 PM. All those planning to attend are encouraged to bring an appetizer prepared from one of our local cookbooks and are welcomed to sample selections brought by others!
