Closed for Thanksgiving

Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library will be closed tomorrow for Thanksgiving along with Friday. From all of us here at the library, may everyone have a very happy Thanksgiving holiday! We are so thankful for our patrons, our community, and all those who have given their time and talents in making this a wonderful year for our library.

We’ll be back open Saturday morning with a visit from Santa and a children’s craft from 10AM-12PM!

Soldering at the Library

Yesterday evening we had the chance to learn all about the practice of soldering and even got to solder together our own fully functional flashlights to take home. When not at the soldering station, we had snap circuits kits up and running as well with lots of different design options to choose from. As always, thank you to Bloomsburg Children’s Museum for helping us bring educational programs like this into the community!

Santa Claus is Coming to Town!

Don’t forget that Santa will soon be firing up his trusty sleigh and making the trek southward to visit all of us at the Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library!

Santa will be touching down on East Independence Street this coming Saturday, November 25 and will be at the library from 10AM-12PM. A beaded holiday children’s craft will also be available with help from our friends at the NCCA. Mark your calendars, make your lists, and be sure to stop by for a visit with Santa at the library!

STEM Program Reminder

Don’t forget that our monthly STEM program presented by Bloomsburg Children’s Museum will be held at the library tomorrow evening at 6 PM! This month we’ll be learning all about soldering, why/how it’s used, and the important role the practice plays across various disciplines.

Join us at the library later this month on Tuesday, November 28 from 5-7 PM for a special author visit and book signing! Author Harry Deitz, Jr. will be discussing his recent book “Gentleman Jake: The Success and Tragedy of the Deadball Era’s Greatest First Baseman” which focuses on the professional baseball career of Shamokin native Jake Daubert. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the signing for all those interested!

Victorian Tea Party & Historical Speaker

We had a splendid Victorian tea party at the library yesterday evening that featured a variety of goodies on the menu. The evening also included a talk from Amanda Krebs that focused on the many notable and influential women from Shamokin during the time period. Thank you to our partners at the NCCA for helping make events like this possible!

Turkey Season at the Library

We had a nice big group this morning at Preschool Storytime & Movement full of both new and familiar faces! After reading “Llama Llama Gives Thanks” and singing our songs, we trotted over to the crafting area where everyone got to make a turkey hat (complete with feathers) to wear this Thanksgiving season. Check out some of these little turkeys!
