Community Halloween Costume Giveaway

The Halloween Costume Giveaway hosted at the library this past Saturday saw over 100 costumes distributed over the course of just two hours. With a wide variety of new or lightly used costumes available in all different sizes to choose from, there was truly something for everyone!

A huge thank you goes out to organizers Lauren Zimmerman, Maria James, Lindsay Thomas, and Heather Krebs for putting together the initial costume collection event that took place last November and for volunteering their time and effort to ensure the recent giveaway was also a huge success. Hopefully this community minded event helped out as many families as possible and will continue for years to come!

Preschool Storytime & Movement

Join us at the library for Preschool Storytime & Movement tomorrow (9/16) at 10 AM. Our story tomorrow morning will be “When You Have to Wait” since learning to wait is one of life’s earliest and most important lessons. Following song time, everyone will get to fill in the blank and draw something they had to wait for or are still waiting for!

STEM Program This Tuesday (9/17/24)

Just a reminder that this Tuesday (9/17) at 6 PM Bloomsburg Children’s Museum will be making their monthly visit to our library. This time around, we’ll be learning all about radio waves and making our own FM radios to take home! To sign up for this free event, either stop by the library or give us a call at 570-648-3202.

Upcoming Scarecrow Kid’s Craft

Join us at the library next Saturday (9/21) at 10 AM for a scarecrow themed kid’s craft! Using just paper and only a handful of other materials, you’ll be ready for the fall season in no time at all.

Space is limited and sign-up is required, so be sure to claim a spot as soon as you can by either stopping by the library or reaching out over the phone!

9/11 Memorial Service & Book Donation

On behalf of everyone at Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library, it was truly an honor for our organization to be included in yesterday evening’s 9/11 memorial service held at Shamokin City Hall.

For those that were unable to attend and hear retired FDNY firefighter Chris Edwards speak about the events of that day as he experienced them and the lasting effects such experiences continue to have on both a man and a city, everyone will have the chance to read about them in his book “Coming Through the Flames” which he signed and donated to our library.

We extend our thanks and gratitude to Mr. Edwards for his years in the fire service, just as we do to all of the dedicated and selfless crews that make up our local fire departments as well as members of law enforcement and EMS across the board. And of course, we thank Chris Edwards for his book “Coming Through the Flames” and hope that it helps to ensure the sacrifices and resilience seen on that day are never forgotten.

A Lovely Thank You

We received this wonderful card in the mail today. From everyone here at the library, knowing we’re making a difference for folks like the Zarkowski family is always wonderful to hear! ❤️

Besides library staff, a shoutout thanking the Shamokin Area Education Association as well as Jack Richford is also included. Both were a massive help when it came to funding special programs and providing larger incentive prizes this summer!
