Summer Reading Adventures Continue at the Library!

Summer Reading Week 2 was a blast! This week we hosted Reptiland and their special presentation “Reptiles: The Beautiful & the Deadly” which featured an alligator, an iguana, multiple snakes, and more!

Between now and next Wednesday morning’s Adventure Crafts program, be sure to complete your reading log by reading 20 minutes a day for at least 5 days in order to receive either a free book or an item from the prize box next week. If you’re not quite reading on your own yet, reading with a parent/guardian or being read to also counts!

Each week you complete the log and bring it back to us, you’ll have the chance to enter your name to win an Amazon Fire tablet on the last day! Also continue working on your Summer Reading Bingo cards and be sure to show us your progress week to week.

Each time you get bingo, you’ll get to enter your name into a separate drawing for a grand mystery prize that we’ll also be giving away during our last session together in August. We hope to see everyone next week (7/24) for Adventure Crafts!

“Death in Denver” Crime Scene Investigation

Yesterday evening Bloomsburg Children’s Museum visited us at the library for our monthly STEM adventure! This time around, the focus was on forensic science as we were tasked with solving a “Death in Denver” that had gone unsolved for many years.

After learning how and why certain tests are done, we observed blood splatter patterns and measured skeletal remains and successfully identified the guilty party from our pool of suspects. As always, thank you to Bloomsburg Children’s Museum for helping us make engaging and educational opportunities like this possible!

Adventure Continues at Your Library!

Join us for Summer Reading Week 2 at Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library! This Wednesday (7/17) we will be hosting Reptiland and their special presentation “Reptiles: The Beautiful & the Deadly” featuring a host of different creatures that we’ll get to see and learn all about.

Just like last week, registration/check-in will start at 9:30 AM and then the program will begin promptly at 10 AM. If you completed the reading log, please be sure to show it to us when signing in so that you can get a sticker for your log and the chance to enter our grand prize raffle from which several lucky winners will be drawn at the end of our time together later this summer.

Following the Reptiland program and a snack, all those that completed their reading for the week will be able to select a free book for their home library or something from the prize box. We hope to see you all Wednesday morning!

Reading Rockets Take Flight!

This morning at Preschool Storytime & Movement we read “Away in My Airplane” which was about what it’s like to ride in a real plane across the skies. Following song time, everyone got to color a “Reading Rocket” which was then folded into a paper airplane ready for takeoff!

STEM Program Coming Up

Just a reminder that this Tuesday (7/16) at 6 PM Bloomsburg Children’s Museum will be making their monthly visit to our library! This time around, we’ll be delving into forensic science and working to solve a “Death in Denver” by investigating blood splatter, DNA evidence, and skeletal remains. To sign up for this free event, either stop by the library or give us a call at 570-648-3202.
