Learning at the Library

Light up pumpkins, monsters, and ghosts came to visit the library yesterday evening during the monthly STEM program! After a bit of coloring, everyone got to see how a simple circuit is constructed, what materials are needed, and how it works. As always, thank you to Bloomsburg Children’s Museum for helping us bring educational programs like this into the community!

Special Hours Next Tuesday (10/24/23)

Next week on Tuesday (10/24) the library will be open special hours that will differ from normal Tuesday/Thursday evening hours due to the Shamokin Halloween Parade which kicks off at 6 PM. We will be open from 9:30 AM-5 PM so please keep this in mind if you need to grab books, movies, or use the computer that day.

During the parade, library representatives will be outside the building handing out bags of candy to kids until we run out!

Cookbook Book Club Starting Up

Do you have a passion for home cooking and keeping memories of yesteryear alive through certain dishes that you make? Perhaps you still even use the same handwritten recipe card that was passed down to you by a dear departed loved one even though you know the recipe by heart!

With dozens of local cookbooks on hand collected from churches, clubs, and other groups that have traveled from one kitchen to the next over the years, an organizational meeting for the library’s new “Cookbook Book Club” will be held Monday (10/23) at 6 PM for everyone interested in making this new venture something that will help us better connect with each other, our own stories, and hopefully lots of tasty food! If this sounds like you, please sign up either at the library or by giving us a call this week.

Learning Our Letters at the Library

This morning at Preschool Storytime & Movement we read “The Best Halloween Book” which went through the letters of the alphabet and included a Halloween word starting with each letter. We had “C” for cat, “P” for pumpkin, “M” for monster, and many more. Later we crafted some spooky foam cats, pumpkins, and skeletons to decorate with at home!

Guest Author Next Saturday (10/21/23)

Join us at the library next Saturday (10/21) at 10 AM for a special author visit and book signing! Dr. Anne Katona Linn will be discussing her book “Shedding Lies: Living Beyond Childhood Trauma” throughout an interactive Q&A session. Copies of the book are readily available for purchase at the library for $13 while supplies last.
