Summer Reading 2023 “All Together Now” Program Series Coming Up!

With 2023 flying by fast and June arriving tomorrow already, it’s time to start thinking about Summer Reading 2023 at Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library! The theme for this summer’s program series is “All Together Now” which is meant to highlight the value of friendship and community in the lives of our young readers.

This year we’ll be kicking things off a little bit earlier with registration/reading log checks starting at 9:30 AM every Wednesday morning beginning in July and stretching into August before school starts back up again. Once all of that’s taken care of, programs will begin promptly at 10 AM and last around an hour each week.

Summer Reading 2023 at the library is set to feature some familiar faces like Ryan “The Bug Man” Bridge as well as new editions including folks from ZooAmerica and Reptiland that will be sharing their animal expertise with us as they introduce all of their scaled and tailed friends. Keep an eye out for the full 6 week schedule to be posted soon!

To get an early jump on things, visit us at the library or give us a call at 570-648-3202 to sign up your child ahead of time. We look forward to being “All Together Now” at the library this summer for what’s sure to be an educational, entertaining, and exciting run of special programs and presenters!

Thanks for Stopping By!

We’d like to send a big thank you to everyone that visited the library’s booth during the Heritage Festival this past Saturday! Throughout the morning and absolutely beautiful afternoon we were able to reach out and connect with folks from all over the community and share with them everything that’s going on at the library this summer and beyond.

Additionally, thank you to Jeanne Shaffer of the Northumberland County Council for the Arts for including our organization in what is always a wonderful event!

Fairy Garden Kid’s Craft to Be Held at Claude Kehler Community Park

For the third year in a row, the library will be partnering with the NCCA for the Fairy Garden Kid’s Craft! This event will be held offsite at Claude Kehler Community Park in Shamokin on Wednesday, June 21 at 10 AM within the main pavilion area.

This is of course a free event but children MUST be signed up ahead of time. This magical morning only has room for 25 kids so be sure to reserve your spot while there’s still time!

Puppet Making Workshop Coming Up

Harmony Hill Puppet Theatre will be visiting the library next Saturday (6/10) for a puppet making kid’s program! Starting at 10 AM, children will be introduced to the puppet making process and later shown how to put on their own puppet shows at home. Best of all, everyone will have the chance to create their very own sock puppet to keep!

This is a free program put on in partnership with the Northumberland County Council for the Arts that will give kids the chance to really get creative and in touch with their imaginations. All materials will be provided onsite but children MUST be signed up ahead of time. Space is limited to 25 so be sure to reserve a slot before we’re all filled up!

Heart & Soul Chair Yoga

Ease into the coming summer season by joining us at the library for Heart & Soul Chair Yoga with instructor KymBre Shingara! Held most Monday mornings throughout the coming month, sessions run from 8:15-9:00 AM with doors opening at 8:00 AM.

Classes are $7 a piece or $15 for all three June sessions. To sign up, you can either visit us at the library or give us call us at 570-648-3202. All adults and abilities are welcome!

Lewisburg Children’s Museum Family Day Pass Available

Just a reminder that the library is offering our patrons this fantastic new opportunity! The Museum Cultural Pass program is part of Lewisburg Children’s Museum’s “Count Me In” initiative and provides free admission to the museum.

The Cultural Pass waives all admission fees for the whole family (4 people max, children under age 2 always free) at a time. Passes are valid for general admission only and do not cover special events/programs, classes, or workshops hosted at the museum. The pass can be checked out for 1 week and then is to be promptly returned to the library just like you’d check out and return a book. Please be sure to return the pass in a timely manner so that as many families as possible can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to explore, learn, and grow!

Happy Birthday Jesse!

Jesse, who is one of our top and most frequent puzzle piecers, celebrated his 40th birthday yesterday! To join the festivities, we thought we’d help him celebrate at a place he spends so many of his mornings and afternoons doing something he loves. Happy Birthday Jesse! 🥳🎂🎉

Thank You Great Dane Volunteers

We would like to thank Lorena Kutza and Shayla Nowakoski of Great Dane for volunteering at the library this morning! Lorena and Shayla took on a lead role during our weekly Preschool Storytime & Movement program by reading “Can I Join Your Club?” by John Kelly.

In addition to reading the story, our volunteers also donated coloring books and crayons on behalf of Great Dane. Thank you again to our volunteers and Great Dane’s thoughtful donation of coloring materials!
