Summer Reading Week 4 Recap

Those that attended Summer Reading Week 4 yesterday morning were treated to quite an event brought to us by Ryan Bridge “The Bug Man” who visited our library and brought with him over 100 preserved specimens and multiple live specimens. Towards the end of his educational program, both children and adults were given the opportunity to hold a live tarantula and a scorpion!

STEM Programming at the Library

We would like to thank the Bloomsburg Children’s Museum for putting on the “Build a Boat” STEM program yesterday evening at the library. All children who attended were able design, test, and modify the motorized boats that they built using recycled materials. Keep an eye out for postings announcing the next installment in this program series that will be held towards the end of August!

Summer Reading Week 4

Summer Reading Week 4 at Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library is this Wednesday (7/27) at 10:00 AM! This week we have a very special treat for our young readers in the form Ryan the Bugman and his program “Does Your Water Taste Buggy?” featuring live aquatic insects.

Don’t forget to bring your completed reading logs from Week 3 in order to receive a free book or choice from the prize box and the chance to enter your name into our raffle. During the final day of Summer Reading, we’ll be drawing winners for grand prizes!

Upcoming STEM Program Opportunity

For almost the entire rest of the year, Bloomsburg Children’s Museum will be visiting our library once a month for some imaginative and exciting STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) programs! The upcoming program entitled “Build a Boat” will be held this coming Tuesday (7/26) at 6 PM. The targeted age range for these events is ages 6-13. While these are free events, we do ask that children are signed up ahead of time as only approximately 20 slots will be available each time.

Students will use the engineering design process to make their own motorized boat from recycled materials. Brainstorm, prototype, test, and redesign until your boat glides through the water. Those attending will also then get to take their creations home with them! Sign up soon either at the library or be calling 570-648-3202.

Summer Reading Week 3 Recap

For Summer Reading Week 3, the library hosted The Amazing Magi and his magic show “Pirate Mike and His Quest for Treasures of the Sea”. The show included sleight of hand tricks, a talking seal, and even a live rabbit that magically appeared! Our thanks to The Amazing Magi (Michael Reist) for bringing both his show and his positive message about the importance of reading to our library.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday of next week (7/27) as we’ll be hosting Ryan “The Bugman” and his collection of live aquatic bugs at 10 AM!

Summer Reading Week 3

Summer Reading Week 3 at Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library is this Wednesday (7/20) at 10:00 AM! This week we have a very special treat for our young readers in the form The Amazing Magi and his magical program “Pirate Mike and His Quest for Treasures of the Sea”.

Don’t forget to bring your completed reading logs from Week 2 in order to receive a free book or choice from the prize box and the chance to enter your name into our raffle. During the final day of Summer Reading, we’ll be drawing winners for grand prizes!

Library Cards

It’s never been easier to get a free library card at the Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library!

As long as a child is at least 3 years old, resides within Northumberland County and is accompanied by a parent/guardian carrying two forms of identification, they’re eligible for a free library membership/card and the endless opportunities that it offers.

Adults who wish to sign up for a card must simply be county residents and present two forms of identification (piece of mail, change of address card, driver’s license, etc.).

If you haven’t visited your local public library lately be sure to come see us and witness how our organization is continuously growing as an information hub and community asset for all!

LEGO Club Kickoff

LEGO Club kicked off tonight and we most certainly had a host of creative and talented builders! If you attended this evening or it seems like something that might be up your alley, be sure to join us for LEGO Club on Thursday, July 28th at 6 PM upstairs at the library. Take a gander at the library’s ample supply of LEGOs as well as the inventive creations that the evening produced!

Summer Reading Week 2 Recap

We would like to thank Cameron English of CDE Exotics for visiting our library this morning for Summer Reading Week 2. This morning’s program included an alligator, two turtles, and three different snakes. Towards the end, everyone even had the chance to pet Gary the Snake!

Remember to bring your completed weekly reading log next week for the chance to enter your name into our grand prize raffle when you arrive. During the final day of Summer Reading, we’ll be drawing winners for the grand prizes so keep on reading for at least 20 minutes a day and filling out the log each week!
