Summer Reading Week 2 This Wednesday

Summer Reading Week 2 at Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library is this Wednesday (7/13) at 10:30 AM! This week we have a very special treat for our young readers in the form of CDE Exotics. If you recall when they visited us last summer, the morning included an alligator, snakes, and turtles so who knows what’s in store for us all this time around!

Don’t forget to bring your completed reading logs from Week 1 in order to receive a free book, a choice from the prize box, and the chance to enter your name into our raffle box each week. During the final day of Summer Reading, we’ll be drawing winners for grand prizes.

LEGO Club Returns!

Attention all young builders! LEGO Club for grades K-8 will be starting up once again less than a week from today this Thursday (7/14) from 6:00-7:00 PM and will be held every other week at the same time. For the first half hour, those attending will work in small teams to see who can build a given structure the most efficiently. For the second half hour, our young builders of tomorrow will be given free reign over the library’s LEGO stash to really tap into their creative sides to see what they can bring to life! For all those in the K-8 age range interested in attending this free program at the library, be sure to sign up either at the library or by calling 570-648-3202.

Glowforge Workshop

We hope all those that attended the library’s Glowforge workshop yesterday evening were able to learn lots about our new machine and its capabilities. Keep an eye out for upcoming short videos that show the Glowforge in action as it cuts and engraves materials! Also, a special thank you goes to Alisa Sickora Kleckner for leading yesterday’s session and sharing her expertise with us all.

Victorian Tea Party & Bookmark Making Event

Yesterday evening at the library a tea party and bookmark making event was held. The evening included cucumber sandwiches, chicken & ham salad finger sandwiches, teabag shortbread cookies, strawberries dipped in chocolate, and of course tea! Along with the full tea party experience, lots of supplies to create personalized bookmarks were also available. A special thank you goes to Jeanne Shaffer and the NCCAH for partnering with us for this event.
