Event Reminder

**REMINDER** Volunteers from M&T Bank will be giving a free presentation covering the ideal methods and best practices for keeping your identity/personal information secure. This presentation will be held Wednesday, June 29th at 5 PM at the library. While the library does close at 5 PM on Wednesdays, we will be allowing those that wish to attend this forum into the building.

Hurricane Agnes 50th Anniversary

With the 50th anniversary of Hurricane Agnes and the ensuing floods upon us, the library invites you to take a step back in time by checking out the local news coverage of the events as they unfolded in June 1972. Covering the local Shamokin/Coal Township area as well as all across Northumberland County, these lovingly preserved issues of The News-Item offer a unique glance into the area’s collective past.

Thank you to Joe Rocuskie and Kathy Gonsar for loaning us these materials to share with everyone. The newspapers can be found on display in the library’s front windows.

Family Fairy Garden Event

Just like last summer, the Family Fairy Garden event was held at Claude Kehler Community Park this week. Supplied with lots of fairies, houses, plants, and everything in between some truly magical results were produced! A special thank you from the library goes to Jeanne Shaffer and Joyce Sickora of the Northumberland County Council for the Arts & Humanities for helping us bring this event out into the community once again.

STEM Programming Starting Up Soon!

For almost the entire rest of the year, Bloomsburg Children’s Museum will be visiting our library once a month for some imaginative and exciting STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) programs! The first program entitled “Art Meets Science!” will be held this coming Tuesday (6/28) at 6 PM. The targeted age range for these events is ages 6-13. While these are free events, we do ask that children are signed up ahead of time as only approximately 20 slots will be available each time.

In this first class you will color your own anglerfish on a canvas, learn about simple circuits, and make your anglerfish’s light actually light up! This glowing and educational project can then be taken home. Sign up soon either at the library or be calling 570-648-3202.

Mommy & Me Belly Dancing

We would like to thank Kymbre Shingara for leading another “Mommy & Me Belly Dancing” session at the library yesterday evening. The moms, aunts, grandmas and kids all had a blast as you can see in the accompanying photos. As always, be sure to keep an eye out for more special events like this throughout the summer!

Glowforge Workshop Next Week

New and exciting creative technology can be found at your local library! Through laser cutter and engraver technology, the Glowforge uses a single beam of light to cut, engrave, and shape designs from a variety of different materials.

On Thursday, June 30th at 5:30 PM the library will be hosting a Glowforge workshop. While this is a free event, those attending MUST bring their own personal laptops in order to access the necessary software. Please call the library (570-648-3202) to reserve your spot!

Victorian Tea & Adult Craft

Join us at the library for a Victorian tea party for adults. Along with having tea, there will also be a bookmark craft that will allow those attending to fashion their very own personalized bookmarks to take home. All bookmark making supplies will be supplied at this free adult crafting event.

This is a joint event with the NCCAH that will be held at the library. Please register for this event either at the library or by calling 570-648-3202.

Identity Theft & Fraud Prevention Forum

Volunteers from M&T Bank will be giving a free presentation covering the ideal methods and best practices for keeping your identity/personal information secure. This presentation will be held Wednesday, June 29th at 5 PM at the library. While the library does close at 5 PM on Wednesdays, we will be allowing those that wish to attend this forum into the building.

New Book Club Starting Soon

There’s a brand new book club coming to town at the Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library! Lead by Rudy Sheptock, this new group will meet for the very first time on Thursday, June 23rd at 2 PM on the second floor of the library. This first meeting will be purely an introductory gathering where copies of the first book selection will be available to take home and read in preparation for the second meeting when the book will be discussed by the group.

The “All Booked Up” club will be working their way through “The Walk” series by Richard Paul Evans, focusing on a single installment each time. If you’ve got a passion for reading and sharing your thoughts with others later on, “All Booked Up” is the group for you!

Donuts With Dad Recap

The library recently hosted a “Donuts With Dad” event in partnership with the NCCAH that invited children, fathers, and all family members to the library for some tasty donuts and a nifty craft to commemorate Father’s Day. We hope all that attended had a wonderful time with Dad at the library!
